Associate Chair at GRIVAPP 2027
Dr. Kostiantyn Kucher will serve as an associate chair with a focus on information and scientific visualization at the 22nd International Conference on Computer Graphics, Interaction, Visualization Theory and Applications (GRIVAPP), which will take place in Valletta, Malta during 26–28 February, 2027.
Please note that the regular paper submission deadline for GRIVAPP 2027 is September 15, 2026, and for position papers (+ second batch of regular papers), it is October 22, 2026 (further information).
Special Issue on Bridging Graph Drawing and Dimensionality Reduction
Prof. Dr. Andreas Kerren—together with Claudio D. G. Linhares, Fernando V. Paulovich, Alessio Arleo, and Rafael M. Martins—is co-editing a special issue on Bridging Graph Drawing and Dimensionality Reduction in Information Visualization of the Information Visualization journal (Sage). Paper submission deadline is on November 20, 2026.
RESOPS Project Application Granted by VINNOVA for the Swedish Consortium
The Swedish consortium led by Dr. Yanqing Zhang (ABB Corporate Research, Sweden) has received funding at 12.5 MSEK from VINNOVA for the RESOPS (Resilient Operations for Industrial Processes) project application as part of the EUREKA ITEA4 Call 2025. LiU is represented in the Swedish consortium by Dr. Carl Westin, Dr. Kostiantyn Kucher, Dr. Elmira Zohrevandi, and Prof. Dr. Andreas Kerren. The overall international consortium is led by Dawid Ziobro (ABB Corporate Research, Sweden). Further details will be shared in the future.
iVis Group at EuroVis 2026
This year, only Prof. Andreas Kerren from the iVis unit has attended EuroVis 2026 in Nottingham, UK, during June 8–12, 2026. The unit and our collaborators have presented a range of contributions (including an invited CG&A article as well as two workshop papers on network visualization and visual text analytics), organized the GDxDR workshop, were panelists of the EuroVA 2026 Panel on Bridging Visual Analytics and AI — looking back, moving forward, and served in the EuroVis 2026 Posters IPC.
General Chair of VINCI 2026
Prof. Andreas Kerren will serve as a general chair for the 19th International Symposium on Visual Information Communication and Interaction (VINCI 2026) together with Wei Chen (Zhejiang University) and Günter Wallner (Johannes Kepler University Linz). The conference will take place in Hangzhou, China.
GD 2025 in Norrköping, Sweden
Prof. Kerren and Dr. Kucher (general co-chairs), the members and affiliated members of the iVis group (Zeyang Huang (web chair), Jinyi Wang, Peilin Yu, and Dr. Nico Reski (Norrköping Decision Arena chair)), colleagues from Linköping University, and our collaborators, including Dr. Claudio Linhares (ISOVIS group, Linnaeus University; PhD school chair) have successfully hosted the 33rd International Symposium on Graph Drawing and Network Visualization (GD 2025) in Norrköping, Sweden from September 24–26, 2025. The pre-conference PhD school took place during September 22–23, 2025, with Dr. Camilla Forsell acting as one of the PhD school lecturers.

Hans Werthén Foundation Scholarship
Dr. Elmira Zohrevandi has been awarded the Hans Werthén Foundation Scholarship by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. This scholarship, valued at 190,000 SEK, will support a six-month research visit at TU Delft.
Early Career Award and Best Reviewer Award at EuroVis 2025
In addition to the conference activities described below, Dr. Kostiantyn Kucher has received the Early Career Award and Best Reviewer Award at EuroVis 2025 in Luxembourg.
iVis Group at EuroVis 2025
The iVis group members have attended EuroVis 2025 in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg during June 2–6, 2025. We and our collaborators have presented a range of contributions (including a full paper, a short paper, a workshop paper, and a poster with demo), organized a tutorial on dimensionality reduction, and served as chairs for STARs as well as Posters and Demos tracks.
ELLIIT Focus Period Symposium
While our ELLIIT focus period, organized by Prof. Andreas Kerren, Dr. Katerina Vrotsou, and Dr. Kostiantyn Kucher, is still running full speed, the corresponding symposium took place in the Elite Grand Hotel, Norrköping, May 13-15. The entire organization team (incl. our great administrators Denise Wahlström and Tove Kvarnström) is very happy about the outcome which has been also confirmed by many participants. Symposium highlights are summarized in a news item on the ELLIIT web site. We thank all involved people, especially our scholars, speakers, and scientific committee members.
Within Top 10% of Most-viewed Articles at CGF in 2023
Our open access paper VA + Embeddings STAR: A State-of-the-Art Report on the Use of Embeddings in Visual Analytics, co-authored by Zeyang Huang, Daniel Witschard, Dr. Kostiantyn Kucher, and Prof. Andreas Kerren, was among the top 10% of most-viewed papers published by the Computer Graphics Forum (CGF) journal in 2023.
