F AUTO - Flexible automation and visualization of situations, with monitoring through sensors and artificial intelligence in the operator environment, for different types of traffic

The F-AUTO project explores interface concepts (HMI) for command centers in shipping, air traffic control and railways, with advanced sensor technology and artificial intelligence for a new generation of flexible automation. Flexible automation means that the system adapts to the operator and to their work situation. In F-AUTO, we combine information about the operator's work situation with information about the controlled processes obtained from external sensors and uses this extended understanding of the situation as a basis for adaptation. The project uses non-invasive sensors in the operator environment to create a real-time image of what operators perceive, do and feel.

We aim to create innovative concepts and demonstrator systems for advanced flexible automation in control rooms with "operator tracking" supported by artificial intelligence. The approach in the project will be exploratory and inclusive by, together with experts, developing concepts that are continuously refined and implemented in technical prototypes that are evaluated.

F Auto is managed by LiU and is funded by the Swedish Transport Administration.
