Applied Sonification to Complement Visualization in Immersive Environments

The aim of this doctoral project is to explore how sonification can be used as a complement to visualization to perceptulize data. The sonification can either support visualization by conveying the same data, or to convey additional information. The research specifically explores the use of sonification within immersive environments, and how it can be applied to create both an informative and immersive experience for the listener. This is achieved by using parameter mapping to create an intuitive way to convey information, and utilizing spatial audio to further immerse the listener. To verify its usefulness, evaluations are conducted to measure the communicative and aesthetic aspects of the sonification.
